Kani Weaves

Kani Shawl is the pinnacle of Kashmir shawl industry. Unlike woven on a hand loom a kani shawl is made using wooden needles called Tujis or Kanis hence the name kani shawl. These shawls score pretty high in the eyes of craft patrons and may take anywhere from six months to three years to complete, depending upon the complexity of the design.

Kalamkari Pashminas

The term "Kalamkari" originates from the combination of two distinct words: "Kalam," meaning pen, and "Kari," meaning work. Consequently, Kalamkari quite literally refers to the art of pen work. Skilled artisans from Kashmir have skillfully incorporated this exquisite craft into pure pashmina shawls, giving rise to the creation of Kalamkari shawls. The process begins with the careful hand painting of a pashmina shawl using a brush crafted from bamboo, utilizing only organic dyes. Subsequently, the outlines are meticulously hand embroidered, employing either the same or contrasting colors. This meticulous technique not only adds a touch of elegance to the shawls but also showcases the artisans' exceptional craftsmanship. By combining the art of pen work with the luxuriousness of pashmina, Kalamkari shawls exemplify the perfect fusion of traditional artistry and opulence.
